Grocery Store Flirt

(A fun poem inspired by one of my short stories, "The Love You Find Once in a Blue Moon")

"Grocery Store Flirt"

One day, way back when,
Ernest Baker came strolling in,
Looking like fresh passion fruit
All adorned in his army suit.

He was what we southern girls call
Tall, dark, and a handful.
I thought to myself
Uh-huh, that’s a handsome man full.

He passed through my line
Skin as smooth as silk.
He bought boloney, white bread
And some chocolate milk.

He flirted a little
And tipped his hat.
I grinned and said,
“Aint you gon buy some cheese to go with that?”
