I Have Reached Another Milestone
By Toretha Wright
I have reached another milestone.
I am not as tight or agile as I once was.
I can’t run as fast or walk as far.
My eyesight has weakened.
My knees buckle
My mind is not as sharp, but my wit is still quick.
And I can still turn a memory into a short story.
I’m still me...
I still crave knowledge and pursue higher levels of learning.
I’m wiser.
I can’t worry about small things.
They’re all small things.
I don’t care what lying mirrors say.
I still have beauty in me.
I let go of vain things and unnecessary pain...
I released unhappiness… for my wellbeing.
I stopped just writing stories; I started living them.
I eat chocolate without a care.
I wear this smile that comes from my soul
I observe nature when I walk outdoors.
I see God’s work clearer now.
I’m writing my story with a fresh pen.
I have reached another milestone, I'm free.
